Flynn, PhD, PE Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Alberta Dr. Flynn spent 25 years in the energy industry in Canada before taking the Poole Chair in Management for Engineers at the University of Alberta in 1999. He oversees the Engineering Management graduate program and is an active researcher in power price patterns in deregulated power markets and in the economics of biomass utilization. He serves on the Boards of an electrical regulatory body and a green energy company developing run of river power projects. Jon Going, MS Inland Power Group - GE Jenbacher Sales Director Mr. Going has 12 years of experience in the engine and power generation industry. He holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering and an MS in Engineering Management from Milwaukee School of Engineering. He has worked on numerous anaerobic digester projects that utilized the biogas for various power generation equipment. His company is the Midwest Distributor for GE Energy's Jenbacher gas engines. Barry Kintzer, PE Former National Environmental Engineer, USDA-NRCS Mr. Kintzer has more than 36 years of experience as an agricultural and environmental engineer for USDA/NRCS. He received his BS degree in agricultural engineering from Pennsylvania State University. He is a registered professional engineer in Illinois and Virginia. Ted Matthews Anaerobic Digester Manager, E3 Biofuels Mr. Matthews has over 30 years of experience in agri-business, including management of small and large dairies, and construction and management of anaerobic digesters. He has his Nebraska Wastewater Treatment Certification and studied agriculture and agricultural mechanics at Clymer Central School in New York. Mr. Matthews owned and operated a 100 cow dairy in western New York from 1975 to 1992. He spent five years as a consultant and trouble-shooter for dairy anaerobic digester systems in the Eastern United States.
David Miller, MBA Director of Research and Commodity Service, Iowa Farm Bureau Federation Mr. Miller coordinates the research programs of the Federation and the various commodity services offered by the Federation. He oversees the Carbon Credit Trading program and provides economic analysis of agricultural issues. Miller obtained an MBA in finance from the University of Missouri in 1984 and a BS in Agriculture from the University of Missouri in 1982. Miller is active in production agriculture, operating a 400 acre grain farm in southern Iowa. Andrew Mills Marketing Manager Environmental Systems, Layfield Group Limited Mr. Mills has been with the Layfield Group for over 19 years as an installer, product and research manager, plant manager and now marketing manager. Mr. Mills has led many development projects at Layfield including geomembrane manufacturing, secondary containment market development, and the development of the Arctic Liner, Enviro Liner, and HAZGARD brands of geomembranes. Andrew has published a number of geosynthetics technical papers, case histories, articles, and is the primary author of the www.geomembranes.com website. Michael O'Neil Senior Wastewater Engineer, Applied Technologies, Inc. Mike O'Neil has been a senior environmental process engineer with Applied Technologies, Inc. for eight years and has been working in the environmental engineering field for over ten years. He holds Bachelors and Masters of Science engineering degrees from the University of Illinois-Champaign, where he conducted research in feasibility studies for anaerobic systems. Mr. O'Neil specializes in anaerobic systems and solids management and has extensive experience in the design and construction of wastewater treatment plant systems.
Jan M. Scott President, Unison Solutions, Inc. Mr. Scott is the president of Unison Solutions, Inc., where his responsibilities focus on sales, marketing and business development. Unison is an energy services company located in Dubuque, IA that designs and builds turnkey waste to energy systems primarily for utilities, municipalities, and engineering firms. Prior to co-founding Unison in 1999, Scott was the Director of Sales for a Midwest utility. Mr. Scott received a BS in mechanical engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Shihwu Sung, PhD, PE Associate Professor, Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering, Iowa State University Dr. Sung has 15 years of experience in environmental engineering with a primary emphasis on anaerobic biotechnology. He holds a BS in Civil Engineering, and an MS and PhD in Environmental Engineering. Dr. Sung and co-workers developed two US patented anaerobic technologies - Anaerobic Sequencing Batch Reactor (ASBR) and Temperature Phased Anaerobic Digestion (TPAD). He was an environmental consulting engineer focusing on process design of industrial and agricultural waste treatment systems prior to joining the academic position. He has been involved in numerous anaerobic treatment projects in the US and overseas. Dr. Sung has published over 70 technical papers in the field of anaerobic technology. Dennis E. Totzke, MS, PE President, Applied Technologies, Inc. Mr. Totzke received BSEE and MSCE degrees from Marquette University. He specializes in the evaluation and design of agricultural and industrial processes and environmental management systems with nearly 30 years of experience with organizations like Maple Leaf Farms, Crescent Duck, Van Drunen Farms, Tyson, and Nestle. Prior to forming Applied Technologies, Mr. Totzke worked for CH2M Hill and CRSS in various technical and management consultant roles. He is a registered Professional Engineer in 25 states.
Peter Wright, MS State Conservation Engineer, USDA-NRCS, Syracuse, NY Peter Wright has served as an agricultural engineer for 28 years working on manure management, water quality, and conservation issues. He has a BS and a MEng degree from Cornell University. He was deeply involved in on-farm anaerobic digestion evaluation while serving as Cornell's manure management specialist to the dairy industry. He is a member of both the ASABE and SWCS.
