Goal: Review some of the evidence regarding climate change and possible ways to cope with these changes in the context of agriculture. Activities:
  1. Read and discuss the book: Climate Change: Picturing the Science by Gavin Schmidt and Joshua Wolfe. 2009.
  2. View and discuss selected videos and presentations that illustrate the effects of climate change on agriculture.
Schedule:
Week 1. What is "climate change" and what is the evidence that it is taking place?
Read: Introduction, Chapters 1-2
View: Gene Takle video. Climate Change Science: A basis for agricultural decision-making.

Week 2. What are some of the changes being observed in the oceans, the weather, and biodiversity.
Read: Chapters 3-5

Week 3. What are some of the drivers of climate change?
Read: Chapters 6-7

Week 4. What is the prognosis for the planet?
Read: Chapter 8

Week 5. What can we do to address and adapt to climate change?
Read Chapter 9

Week 6. What are some of the policy changes we may see?
Read Chapter 10 and A Final Note.
