Comprehensive Nutrient Management Plan Development Course
The CNMP Development Course is being offered by Iowa State University. Under a national MOU with USDA, individuals certified under this program can be recognized by USDA as Technical Service Providers (TSP) through the Tech Reg system.
This CNMP Development Course provides the educational component of the Iowa State University TSP certification program. This three-day short course is designed to train individuals in the development of CNMPs. Course participants will learn how to prepare CNMPs meeting current NRCS guidelines. The course will focus on the development process. A CNMP developed for an existing livestock facility will be used to demonstrate practical plan preparation techniques, and attendees will receive an example CNMP. Course participants will receive training that is applicable in any state, as well as experience with a real plan during the course. In class learning exercises will be used to enhance the learning process. Attendees will receive an example CNMP. Materials have been updated for the 2009 course.
Those Attending Will Learn About:
- CNMP Plan Preparation Process
- NRCS Conservation Planning Processes and Resources
- Storage System Sizing and Existing System Evaluation
- Strategic and Annual Nutrient Management Planning
- Land Application Logistics
- Land Treatment Practices and Conservation Plan Development
- Feed Management for Reducing Manure Nutrients
- Air Quality Issues and Mitigation Technologies
- TSP Certification Requirements
- Identifying and Collecting Needed Information
- Constructing and Formatting a CNMP
Constructing a CNMP
On the third day of the training, a session has been included titled "Constructing a CNMP". The goal of this session is to provide practical information from an experienced TSP on gathering and organizing the materials necessary to construct a CNMP, and to give you an opportunity to ask questions and discuss issues related to CNMPs with the course instructors.
New This Year - "Understanding and Working with Nutrient Management Plans under the CAFO Final Rule" - Special One Day Training on April 9, 2009
On December 22, 2008, the revised CAFO Final Rule went into effect. Several sections of the rule have been updated since the initial rule was released in 2003. Development of a nutrient management plan remains an integral part of the NPDES permit process and is now also a requirement for the "no-discharge" certification option. Individuals working with and providing information to CAFO operators need to understand the final rule's permitting options and understand how nutrient management plan terms will become a part of the NPDES permit. This one day training will provide an opportunity for you to gain the knowledge you need to work with CAFO operators as they make decisions about meeting requirements under the CAFO final rule on their farm. The agenda and registration information are included in this brochure.
