International Pollination Symposium 2007 -- Travel

AIRPORT SHUTTLES FROM DES MOINES AIRPORT TO AMES:

If you arranged for the airport shuttle to pick you up at the Des Moines Airport, you should have received an email confirmation of your flight information the week of June 11. If your travel plans change or your flight is cancelled/delayed, please call the Transportation Hotline as soon as possible at (515) 290-0545 with your new flight details. No shuttle requests or additions will be accepted after 5:00 p.m. CDT on Friday, June 22, 2007.

Travel

The city of Ames is conveniently located near the intersection of Interstates 35 and 80 in the center of the state of Iowa. Iowa State University is located just off Highway 30 that runs along the southern edge of Ames. All Ames hotels and dining options can be reached in less than ten minutes by car.

The Des Moines International Airport (DSM) is the closest airport to Iowa State University, approximately 40 miles. That will be most expeditious for you and most convenient.

Chicago, Illinois is approximately 5-6 hours from Ames,
Kansas City, Missouri is 3 hours,
Omaha, Nebraska is 3 hours, and
Minneapolis, Minnesota is 3 hours away.

Symposium-sponsored airport shuttles will be offered to/from the Des Moines International Airport to the Gateway Hotel or University Park Inn & Suites in Ames. This is at an additional charge ($40 USD) and is not included in the Symposium registration fee; you may register for airport transportation when you register for the symposium. Airport shuttles are offered roundtrip only; if you need only a one-way transfer, the rate is still $40 and you must register your flight details as if you were using a roundtrip transfer. If you have flight delays or cancellations that change your plans, I work with you to make sure you have a way to get to your hotel in Ames.

If you choose to rent a car in order to be mobile during your time in Ames, rental cars are available at the Des Moines Airport from 7-8 different companies. There are no shuttle services based at the airport. Taxi will cost approximately $60 one-way. The website for the Des Moines International Airport is http://www.dsmairport.com.

The Symposium will be offering local transportation each day to the conference site, Scheman Building, from the following locations: Gateway Hotel & Conference Center on Elwood Drive, University Park Inn & Suites on Elwood Drive, Willow Residence Hall on the Iowa State University campus. The shuttle will run a continuous circulation to each location at the beginning and end of each day (according to the official symposium schedule). Transportation to tour sites is also provided to all participants.
