    Jay Staker

As the Web evolves so have the communication patterns of the youth that are connected via electronic media. The presentation will be based on the evolution from Web 1.0 to Web 2.0. Various online communication venues will be showcased including: MySpace; facebook; Second Live; and other developing methods of communicating and networking. Youth aren't emailing. It is too slow they want real-time communication that is network based. Connect to all friends all of the time is the wave of the youth communication. It isn't unusual to see youth talking on their cell phones, text messaging, writing on someone's myspace wall, and talking to friends in person. Web 2.0 allows youth to engage in virtual "life" experiences in a setting that frees them from restraint as they test who they are. The workshop hopes to provide an exposure to the Web 2.0 environment and philosophy that will better allow Extension staff engage the youth audience.
