Each workshop is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Registration is from 8 to 8:30 a.m. on the first day of each workshop. Lunch is provided with each full day program

Location and Parking
The workshops will be held in the Seed Science Center at Iowa State University. Parking is available nearby. You'll receive a map and parking permit with your registration confirmation.

On-Location Workshops
Special arrangements may be made for the workshops to be held on location at your plant or place of operation if four or more employees are involved.

Customized Workshops
Special arrangements may be made for customized workshops designed to suit your company needs. These workshops are held in the Seed Science Center and can vary in duration and content, based on your company's specific needs.

AOSA Seed Analyst Short Course:
Purity Short Course
Germination Short Course

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Persons interested in a solid introductory course in seed analysis, and persons preparing to take the Registered Seed Technologist Examination or the AOSA Purity/Germination CSA Exam.
BENEFITS
The Seed Analyst Short Course is designed to provide
  • basic information regarding seed quality evaluation;
  • a broad course of study covering many seed species,
  • excellent training for the Registered Seed Technologist Examination or the AOSA Purity/Germination CSA Exam;
  • an opportunity to attend either a session on purity, a session on germination, or both;
  • an educational experience valuable to both the participants and their employers; and
  • a chance to interact and share information with other seed analysis professionals.
PURITY
Monday - Thursday, April 20 - 23

The purity session will consist of lecture and laboratory periods on seed structure, seed identification, purity analysis, sampling and dividing, seed laws and enforcement, tolerances, and available literature. You will conduct purity analyses and perform seed identification separations on at least 10 different samples. More than 116 different crop, vegetable, and weed species will be available for practice. Contact Sandra Hegna (sahegna@iastate.edu) by April 13 for other species.
GERMINATION
Monday - Thursday, April 27 - 30

The germination session will cover the processes involved in seed germination, rules for germination testing, seedling evaluation, dormancy, vigor, seed longevity and deterioration, tetrazolium testing, genetic/AP testing, and other special tests. Contact Kim North (kimnorth@iastate.edu) by April 13 with special requests.
Exams
The AOSA purity exam will be offered on April 24 and the germination exam will be offered on May 1. The exams are free. You must have prior approval from AOSA Certification of Analysts Committee Chairperson, Michael Gill, mgill@nmda.nmsu.edu or (505) 646-3407.
