The city of Ames is conveniently located near the intersection of Interstates 35 and 80 in the center of the state of Iowa. Iowa State University is located just off Highway 30 that runs along the southern edge of Ames. All Ames hotels and dining options can be reached in less than ten minutes by car.

The Des Moines International Airport (DSM) is the closest airport to Iowa State University, approximately 40 miles. Distances by car:

Chicago, Illinois is approximately 5-6 hours from Ames,
Kansas City, Missouri is 3 hours,
Omaha, Nebraska is 3 hours, and
Minneapolis, Minnesota is 3 hours away.

Airport Transportation

Conference-sponsored airport shuttles will be offered to/from the Des Moines International Airport to the Gateway Hotel in Ames. This is at no charge; however, you must register for airport transportation when you register for the conference. Participants must register confirmed flight details. If you have flight delays or cancellations that change your plans, every attempt will be made to accommodate your changes.

If you choose to rent a car in order to be mobile during your time in Ames, rental cars are available at the Des Moines Airport from 7-8 different companies. There are no shuttle services based at the airport. Taxi will cost approximately $65 one-way. The website for the Des Moines International Airport is http://www.dsmairport.com.
