Work Zone Safety Workshops
January 31 - March 21, 2012
Work Zone Safety Workshops 2012
About the workshops
During January, February, and March, 2012, work zone traffic control and safety training will be offered at several Iowa venues so that workers across the state can participate conveniently. Each one-day workshop will cover current revisions in the
Manualon Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD),
particularly Part 6.
The workshops consist of a general session for all participants, plus breakout sessions tailored to specific categories of work zone activities: city, county, utility, Iowa DOT construction and contractors, and Iowa DOT maintenance. Breakout sessions are not provided for every category at every workshop; check the schedules inside.
Workshop objectives
To introduce the principles and convey the importance of using proper methods for safe and efficient temporary traffic control at work sites.
To examine specific applications relevant to situations routinely encountered by city, county, utility, contractor, and Iowa DOT crews.
To reduce motor vehicle traffic crashes at road work sites, resulting in greater safety for highway users and workers alike.
Who should attend
The MUTCD recommends that all workers (and their supervisors) whose duties place the mon or near the traveled portion of roadways regularly complete work zone traffic control training. The Iowa Work Zone Safety Workshops provide this valuable training. It is not necessary to attend a work zone safety workshop every year; every three years is recommended. Within an organization, workers' attendance can be rotated systematically, making it possible for staff at all levels to attend every few years.
For anyone interested in Iowa DOT specifications and requirements, the Iowa DOTConstruction and Contractors breakout session may be most appropriate. The Citybreakout session may be best for workers interested in urban work zone applications. The Iowa DOT Maintenance breakout sessions are specifi cally designed for Iowa DOTstaff.
In addition to street and road agencies, contractors, consultant engineering staff, vendors, and suppliers in the road construction industry are welcome to participate and are encouraged to register for the same breakout session categories as those with whom they do business.
